What to do? Visit Arcos de la Frontera
Beautiful, welcoming, with flavour – that’s Arcos de la Frontera, the town with the largest population in the Sierra de Cádiz and also the largest of all. Why visit it? Because it is one of the best places for tourism that shows something of Spain’s history thanks to its rich past: it was the capital of the Taifa de Arcos in the Arabian epoch and capital of the Dukedom of Arcos following the Reconquista, from 1493.
Arcos de la Frontera is less than one hour from the Royal Hideaway Sancti Petri and the journey there provides an opportunity to get to know the charming and perfect interior of the region, which is why we take trips there whenever we can.
Arcos dates back to prehistory and the passing of time has left an excellent mark, having been a settlement of the Romans who gave it its current name.
This very beautiful town lies on the top of a hillside. Approaching from the Paterna and Alcalá de los Gazules road to the south and from other points, the silhouettes of this charming Cadiz town come into view, a unique sight.
Once there, you can enjoy its white houses, typical of the entire area and that make a stroll through its streets so enjoyable. There are also marvels such as the church of San Pedro and its fantastic tower, an incredible sight both inside and out. One of the best activities is as simple and cheap as wandering around this town which is without doubt one of the favourites in the area. Want some practical advice? Before returning to the hotel, stop and buy cheese in El Rincón del Abuelo Manuel Fully recommended!
